Homework ~ Music Notation: “Almand” by William Byrd

(This is posted to the 5th Grade QAS Music Page for the benefit of students who cannot log onto Google Classrooms. If this is you, please let me know so I can help you log onto Google Classroom. – Mr Bullock)

[Spelled several different ways (allemande, allemanda, almain, almaine, alman, almand), this word refers to a dance composition from renaissance and baroque periods.]

Click on the link above to see the sheet music for you to copy. The photo image of it was too out of focus to bother posting.

Like the previous assignment, on the music notation paper provided copy the “Alamand” by William Byrd.

You are graded on how accurately and carefully all the notes are copied, and also the spaces in between the notes. Copy all the written elements — clefs, ties, slurs, etc (many we learned earlier this school year). If you see it, copy it. Copy no larger or smaller than they appears in the example.

Do this lightly in pencil at first so you can be sure it’s right. Papers that are crumpled, drawn, etc have points deducted. It is important that we get in the habit of presenting our work neatly and professionally.

Next week we will use this homework assignment to review these musical notes and to listen to these compositions.

As always, if you have a question please contact me. I am here to help you do your best.
